Can You Hear Me Now? is a new production by Jackass Youth Theatre, developed in collaboration with Investing in Children through its Seen and Heard project.

The impromptu excavation of a UBO (unidentified buried object) catapults Jackass Youth Theatre on an unexpected journey, reeling back the decades. Join them as they learn from the unheard stories of children from the past and ask…What does it mean to grow up in County Durham? Back then, and now?

There will be 2 performances in summer 2024:
Saturday 1st June, 7pm @ Jack Drum Arts, St Cuthbert’s Centre, Church Hill, Crook, Co Durham, DL15 9DN
Saturday 8th June, 7pm @ Quebec Village Hall, Front Street, Quebec, Co Durham, DH7 9DF

The Seen and Heard project is entirely directed by the ideas of the children and young people and is shining a spotlight on children and young people in County Durham’s past, with the group members collecting memories of growing up in the North East during the twentieth century.

Jackass Youth Theatre have been working with Darlington based Resound Theatre to develop the production. Using physical theatre, movement, and ensemble storytelling to facilitate the creation of a unique and relevant new production, together with Investing in Children and Jack Drum Arts, they’re putting children and young people front and centre.

Investing in Children is a children's human rights organisation that supports children and young people to have a voice in the services that are delivered to meet their needs. We support young people of all ages and living in all circumstances to help to shape local services in their communities. We work inclusively with children and young people by creating innovative adult free spaces in which they can express their views, discuss issues and ideas, andcome up with solutions to the issues that they face. Once they have established their ideas we then support them to work with the key decision makers within the public services (health, education, leisure, Police, housing etc.) in order to come up with improvements in the services that they receive. We can demonstrate that this process of dialogue and change results in effective, tangible changes that are experienced directly by children and young people themselves.
